Minerva provides tailored capacity development communications training to European Researchers
Earlier this Autumn, Minerva delivered a two-day interactive online training course to Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) involved in the EU funded Marie Curie project, MonoGutHealth.
The course, delivered as a hybrid workshop taking place both online and in person in Poland, focused on supporting and training ESRs to enhance their communication skills. The course provided a step-by-step approach to build recognition and reputation by creating effective social media posts using tailored content and choosing the most appropriate channels.
The sessions were led and delivered by Minerva Director and Communications Strategist Rhonda Smith, and Marie Saville, Account Manager and Creative Communications and Social Media Expert, on behalf of European Science Communications Institute (ESCI).
Initial pre-training feedback from the ESRs helped shape and tailor the content and approach for each of the sessions which covered strategic communications planning, social media and presentation skills.

“As specialists in providing support and training to scientific researchers, Minerva recognises that the tailoring of content and approach for sessions is vital to create engagement with candidates and deliver the best results.” Rhonda explains.
“This training course aimed to provide ESRs with the opportunity to further enhance their personal and professional skills for practical use in future careers by learning how to engage and effectively communicate their scientific programmes with public and targeted audiences,” Rhonda continues.
A range of software applications were used during the sessions to share practical tools whilst also co-creating content and collateral.
Participants described the training as ‘interactive, educative and informative’ with 100% of attendees rating the information, advice and practical experience given during the sessions as good or above. Furthermore, over 90% of participants rated the logistics and overall organisation of the course as very good or excellent.
