What’s it really like to care for someone living with dementia?

There are over 800,000 people with dementia in the UK, many of whom are looked after at home by a relative who has received no training.  To raise awareness of the amazing job carried out by family carers everywhere, every day, Minerva created a unique campaign in partnership with leading national charity Dementia UK, Sweet Tree Home Care Services and Alzheimer’s Society.

The story of fictional couple Reg & Val was published on Twitter for 12 hours across 12 days to give followers real insight to a day in the life of somebody caring for a loved one with dementia.

The initiative was designed to create momentum in the lead-up to the first National Dementia Carers Day (NDCD) on Sunday 14th September 2014, which was an opportunity for all to recognise, celebrate and say thank you to informal carers for the millions of quiet acts of love, kindness and compassion they carry out daily.

The campaign soon gained momentum, with over 1.5k followers and supporting messages from Admiral Nurses, Carers Trust, Royal College of General Practitioners, Care England, Royal College of Nursing, broadcaster John Suchet and David Cameron.
